Born in Rivers, Manitoba, Jill was raised in a military family and grew up in various locations across Canada. Her formative years were spent in Ottawa, Ontario where in 1983 she joined the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve as a Mobile Support Equipment Operator. The following year she remustered to Administrative Clerk and served with 28 (Ottawa) Service Battalion, The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and Ceremonial Guard. Jill transferred to the Canadian Forces Regular Component in 1988.

The next five years were spent working at National Defence Headquarters in Career Management. During this time Jill deployed with 1 Service Battalion for a five month period as part of the United Nations Transition Assistance Group in Namibia (formerly South West Africa).

In 1993, Jill was posted to Geilenkirchen, Germany and employed with the Canadian Contingent of the NATO E-3A Component - Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AWACS). Jill worked in support of Operation Deny Flight over the Former Republic of Yugoslavia.

In 1997, Jill was posted to the First Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Edmonton. She served with 1 PPCLI for two years until early retirement in March 2000.

Over the years Jill's military career has taken her to various countries and continents. Serving overseas provided an invaluable opportunity to learn more about Canada's military history. After visiting many Canadian battlefields and war cemeteries, Jill developed a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices and courage of the brave men and women of Canada's military.

Upon making the transition to civilian life, Jill was inspired to pursue her passion for music and was accepted into the Contemporary Music Program at Grant MacEwan College. She graduated in April 2002 with a Diploma in Vocal Performance. In 2003, Jill recorded her first full length CD entitled "Wings of Peace – A Tribute to the Canadian Soldier".  To order a CD visit www.jillyounghusband.com.

To commemorate the Year of the Veteran, Jill recently recorded a song entitled "The Proud Canadian Soldier" with the Royal Canadian Artillery Band. Jill continues to perform at special events and is a featured soloist at the Edmonton Centre for Spiritual Awareness.
