Captain Brian J. Greenwood joined the Canadian Forces in 1980, while studying music at the University of Western Ontario. He was immediately posted to the Central Band of the Canadian Forces and quickly became the Trumpet/Cornet soloist with the band.

Throughout his time with the Central Band, he was featured across Canada, the US and in Europe as a soloist and clinician. He was well known for his yearly performance of the Last Post, live on National TV at the Cenotaph in Ottawa on Armistice day.

In 1993, as a Warrant Officer, he was selected for the year long QL7 Assistant Directors course and, after receiving very high marks, was selected to be an instructor on the course.

From 1994 to 1998, Capt Greenwood trained all senior musicians for the CF. Specializing in Conducting, Harmony, Music History and Aural Training, he re-wrote many of the existing CF music courses. Throughout this time period, he conducted many local groups including brass bands, choirs and wind ensembles as well as continuing to perform as a soloist.

In 1999, Captain Greenwood accepted his commission and became the Training/Auditions Officer at the Canadian Forces Music Centre in Ottawa. In 2002, he was posted back to the Central Band as the Deputy Commanding Officer. The following year, he was posted to the Band of the Ceremonial Guard as the Director of Music.

Captain Greenwood is a marathoner and an avid hockey player.
